I'm a dancer, French and unpredictable.
I am me. Just enjoy.
As ErNeo, alias “Press Enter to Exit,” has talked a lot about the Matrix lately, and because some of my French friends asked me “why did he have such a recurrent concern about an old film ?”, I had the desire to watch it again and to write something about its philosophical point of view. Please be indulgent with my English mistakes. Here are my ramblings. So French I know but hahaha! I am what I am and it’s been ages since I felt the desire to write something about the matrix but couldn’t find the time to do it. So here it is :)) Philosophy is my cup of tea but if you find it boring, you can always press Enter to Exit. ;) LOL
It’s easy to see a connection between the Matrix and the allegory of Plato’s Cave. In the latest, the human condition is represented as that of chained prisoners unaware of their fate, riveted in front of a wall, staring at passing shadows. Today, the wall could be morphed into a television screen with its stupid programs and all its advertising. It’s almost as if the images maintain a drowsiness, a kind of hypnosis that confines consciousness into the world of appearances, preventing it from seeing reality and from liberating itself. The world of appearances: our everyday world of course, with its exploiters and exploited, its liars, with all its suffering and ordinary alienation. It’s there that Thomas Anderson lived before he met Morpheus.
I always appreciated the clever choice of the heroes’ names: Morpheus and Neo. In the matrix, Morpheus, the Greek mythology’s creator of dreams embodies his perfect antithesis: he is the one to fight illusion. He will send Thomas Anderson into reality where he will become Neo. Neo, another good choice. Interpreted as a pun on “One,” he is the One, the first, the “Chosen” who must defeat the Matrix and who, according to the legend, is the only one capable of doing it. But he is also Neo, the new man. Get me ErNeo, Ernie O? I’m sure you do. LMAO
Morpheus will take Neo out of the cave, beyond the appearances, teaching him the fighting techniques against the Matrix, that mental and spiritual octopus. He will take him back into reality to defeat the dark power that stifles humanity. Only then, will Neo become a liberator, breaking the chains that keep other men prisoners. But to become Neo, it’s a choice to make. The blue pill or the red pill? There is an alternative. Will you choose to work or not to work on the liberation of humanity? That is the question! (Shakespeare get out of here, please. :D) To choose to work on it is to choose insecurity, danger, isolation. It’s to break with the false world of appearances, that of the establishment, conventions, the world of suits and ties, of golden-boys, competition, ambition, fame, MONEY. Not easy to do! hence all the questions, and hesitations. Am I right Ernie O? :D
Morpheus says: most of the “businessmen, teachers, lawyers, are not ready to be unplugged” because it means taking side with the real world, that of the truth of appearances as it is woven into the virtual, that orders all appearances and supports. What I understood from the matrix, and of course I might be wrong, is that the virtual world is actually the real world because it’s the one to deliver the interpretation. I mean, “It is the spirit that orders the reality from the inside”! Isn’t it one of the messages you’re trying so hard to deliver, ErNeo? LMAO It’s a proposition that shocks the common sense because we are biased and think that the virtual is but an illusion that opposes the lackluster reality that surrounds us. Plato’s Allegory of the Cave does exactly the same shift, so yes, we can see definitely a connection between the two of them.
If it is possible to act at the virtual intelligence, to play with the illusion, it is possible to change. We won’t change the world if we don’t change the very things it is: a man’s projection. We will change the world by changing Man’s mind, the spirit that has materialized today’s world. Blue pill, red pill? To die, to sleep. Maybe to dream…hahaha! Here he comes again. Ha! English men !!! :)) Either to see the frame of what is intelligible, or to return to the matrix and no longer be conscious of anything. To go back to the Matrix, to sleep, to dream, to forget is to search for easy pleasures.
But my dear ErNeo, to see doesn’t mean receiving any promise of happiness. It’s just the truth, and only the truth. Not happiness. To see implies the struggle against the totalitarian empire of illusion. To see leads the way to liberation, but the path is difficult, and Neo will have to become a warrior to venture there and fight against the forces of darkness, the powers of the unconscious that keep humanity in a sub-consciousness in which she is not awake. In the illusion, there is no new possibility, there is but the repetition of old behaviors. For the New to arise, the old model must die. For the portal of new possibility to be opened, the old model must be killed (haha! Look at your perv influence on me! Now I can no longer use the word “portal” without laughing.)
In terms of cosmic creative intelligence, anything is possible. All the powers are waiting for anyone who is willing to give himself to the salvation of humankind. In India, they would say, “siddhis.” That’s what mentions Patanjali in the Yoga-sutra I think (well, that’s what I understood). The universe can be recreated from the inside, provided that the chosen one will be able to return to the Source of all powers. Nevertheless, I think it is essential to understand that the illusion never ends either. The only way to break free is to recognize it and especially to know how to play with it. One who is stuck in the game does not know that it’s a game and that’s why there are drama and slavery. The one who knows that it’s a game of cosmic intelligence - hence, virtual - does not come out of reality and its complexity.
There will always be the same world. A world of appearances, a woven world of virtual intelligence. It is the subject’s position in this world that determines the power he has in the world. (I’m not sure to be clear. hahaha!) And the choice to be able to create a different one. This is the meaning of maya in Indian thought. You do not destroy maya, illusion, because it accompanies the process of manifestation, but it is possible to play with maya and seize his prodigious power, and to no longer be a victim of its productions. So I think we can’t reduce the film to the remake of a video game that mixes special effects. It would be unfair. It is a question of interpretation that to my opinion, requires a metaphysical point of view. What lies ahead is a journey into the complex issue of the status of reality.
Thanks for still being here. I hesitated a long time posting it but I promised you I would do it. It won’t happen again for a long time, that’s for sure LMAO but sometimes human philosophy is a another real good point of view too. Get me? From now on I will be back to sending you happy, champagne-bubbles thoughts, so very French too xo
It’s a wonderful world indeed!
It’s not about what you do. It’s about who you are. It’s not about who you are right now. It’s about who you could be. It’s not about what could go wrong. It’s about what will go right. It’s not about listening. It’s about getting up and dancing.
I wrote this for you
See how, like lightest waves at play, the airy dancers fleet;
And scarcely feels the floor the wings of those harmonious feet.
Ob, are they flying shadows from their native forms set free?
Or phantoms in the fairy ring that summer moonbeams see?
F.von Schiller
I open my case
tighten my bow
pluck a string to tune.
I love to listen to it chirp across the echoing room.
My friends are in class
reading about
a famous English king.
But I am training this wooden bird upon my arm to sing.
